LYNN — The Lynn Water & Sewer Commission accepted a deed from the city Monday night transferring a portion of Orlando Avenue to the commission.
The commission unanimously accepted a city deed to Orlando Avenue, a paper street off Daytona Road on the outbound side of Lynnfield Street. A paper street appears on maps and city documents, but only a portion of it was used as an official roadway.
According to Commission Attorney Sam Vitali, the City Council previously voted to discontinue travel on a portion of Orlando Avenue. The abutting property owners have rights to the land, and there is a piece of land that the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission owns.
“When the city abandons a parcel, the abutters on either side have rights to that piece, and so the city has prepared a deed to deed us this piece to add to what we already have,” Vitali said.
Vitali noted that even as the land shifts to the commission, “the city reserved the rights to maintain the utilities.”
By dividing the parcel between the abutters and the commission, Orlando Avenue will no longer exist as a street.
