Summer on the North Fork isn’t defined by one destination — it’s found in the little moments.
On Saturday, residents and visitors filled pickleball courts in Peconic, wandered through colorful flower fields in Mattituck and admired rows of classic cars and trucks in Riverhead, creating a snapshot of everything the season has to offer.
Horton’s flower farm proved a popular stop youngsters and parents. They were able to snack on some goodies, play on the swings and pick their own flowers. East Meadow resident Karen Tejada drove the roughly 65 miles with her niece Layla to enjoy the festivities.
“My niece loves flowers and we saw that this was a nice little event for her, so we brought her out,” Ms. Tejada said. “It’s very relaxing and it’s a beautiful day.”
In Peconic, the Southold American Legion and Walk4Valor held a pickleball tournament at Tasker Park. The fundraiser had a great turnout, according to organizer Joann Prince.
Heading back west, the 34th annual Long Island Antique Power Association car show at Hallockville Museum Farm featured classic Fords, old military vehicles and tractors.
