State tournament roundup: Swampscott falls just short in girls lacrosse action

Swampscott’s girls lacrosse team, ranked 19th in Div. 3, fought hard Friday, but fell to No. 3 Nashoba Regional 9-7. The Big Blue checked out with a record of 14-5.

Bridget Urbano compiled two goals and two assists, joined offensively by Cecelia Tripp (2 goals, assist), Quinn Kelleher (goal), and Victoria Pierro (2 goals).

Lilah Caplan (10 saves) stood strong between Swampscott’s pipes.

BASEBALL

No. 21 Carver 12
No. 44 Lynn Tech 2

In Div. 4 action, Tech struggled to slow down Carver, which advanced to the Round of 32 against No. 12 Nipmuc Regional.

“I couldn’t have been more proud of how hard they played today and all season,” said Tech coach Eddie Lewis. “They showed nothing but class and great sportsmanship all season. They represented their families and the school the right way.”

SOFTBALL

No. 29 Greater Lowell Tech 11
No. 36 Saugus 0

Saugus (10-11) conceded seven runs during the third inning and was bounced in Div. 3. Sofia McCarrier (6 IP) allowed just four earned runs, while Angie Dow, Alannah Duong, and Maria Silva compiled hits.

“It just wasn’t our day, but it was a pleasant surprise to get in (the tournament) and I couldn’t be prouder,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “It wasn’t because of a lack of effort.”

No. 27 Dartmouth 17
No. 38 Lynn Classical 4

The Rams bowed out of the Div. 2 tournament with a 13-8 record. Dartmouth visits No. 6 East Longmeadow in the Round of 32.

VOLLEYBALL

No. 17 Greater Lowell Tech 3
No. 16 Lynn Classical 2

In tight set scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 20-25, and 10-15, Classical met its match in the Div. 2 tournament. Kenzel Lantano recorded 49 assists (career: 1,977), while Riches Tep (23 kills, 9 digs, 2 blocks) and Ali Mejdi (9 kills, 17 digs) also played well.

“This was an excellent game from start to finish. Either team could have won and Greater Lowell just made a few more plays than us tonight,” said Classical coach Chris LeBlanc. “I could not be prouder of our senior class. The three that carried us this season were Kenzel, Ali, and Long Pham.”
