SAUGUS — The Town of Saugus thanks Lt. Art Connors for his work with the Saugus Police Department as he begins retirement.

Board of Selectmen Chair Debra Panetta said that everyone on the board can call Connors their friend and that she was honored to present him with a citation for all his hard work.

“Lt. Connors has been a Selectmen liaison for many, many years. And we appreciate everything that he has done, not just to help this board, to help all of our residents,” she said.

Selectman Michael Serino thanked Connors for his service to the community.

“All of these years, you’re part of our little family here, and we’re certainly going to miss you. I want to wish you all the best, you and your family,” Serino said.

Selectman Frank Federico, the newest on the board, said that despite the little time he had with Connors on the board, he remembered his years with him at Town Meeting.

“You’ve always been more than generous as far as answering questions and explaining any issues that may have come up. I know you had a countdown on your phone, and you were looking forward to this, so I wish you nothing but the best in retirement. … It’s very well deserved,” Federico said.

Selectman Jeff Cicolini said it was an absolute pleasure to work with him.

“I’ve served with several officers in your capacity. You have been the utmost professional. You’ve dealt with some difficult situations, some not so pleasant situations, but more importantly, I want to thank you for being the person you are,” Cicolini said.

He said he tells everyone they are lucky to have “the best of the best” in the police and fire departments.

“You are the epitome of a professional. I’m honored to call you my friend,” Cicolini said.

Vice Chair Anthony Cogliano said that Connors is one of the people in town that no one could say a bad word about.

“I value your friendship and all you’ve done for the community over the years. You will surely be missed, so thank you very much, my friend,” Cogliano said.

Panetta said she echoed everything her fellow board members said, noting that Connors has been “phenomenal” over the years and has always been there to help.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better, more helpful, and more dedicated liaison,” she said.

Town Manager Scott Crabtree congratulated Connors on his retirement, wishing him peace and relaxation.

“On behalf of the town and myself, thank you very much for all of your service to this community,” Crabtree said.

The board presented Connors with his citation, recognizing his 23 years of dedication to Saugus and public safety.
