LYNN — Over the last two weeks, there have been more than 100 motor vehicle stops conducted by Lynn Police, an effort, officials said, to improve the quality of life within the city.

From July 5 through July 16, Lynn Police completed 140 motor vehicle stops, according to the department’s police logs. Over the 12 days, the average number of stops per day was 12.73.

From July 13 through July 16, the department completed 66 motor vehicle stops, with 18 stops being made on July 13 and 33 stops being made on July 15.

In a statement sent by Lynn Police, Lt. Dave Hunter said, “Traffic is the biggest complaint in the city, and we are out try(ing) to meet the expectations of not only our residents, but also those from the outside of the city who work, or travel, through our city.”

He said the department concentrates on areas in the city with complaints, accidents, and overall issues.

The department also has new officers, and “many are seeing the issues in the city and are out enforcing motor vehicle violations as part of their job to improve the quality-of-life issues for Lynn travelers.”

The department is working with grants from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that include pedestrian, bicyclist, and motor vehicle stops, the statement read.

“The public should take their time while traveling, get off their phones, stop at stop signs, don’t block intersections, and realize that where they are in a hurry to go is not worth hurting someone,” the statement read.
