LYNN — The men’s innerclub at Gannon Municipal Golf Course has crowned its champions after back-to-back weekends of match play, as well as an additional 36 holes.

Close finish included, Jay Fiste edged Mike Bono on the 36th hole to go 1 up and win the club championship.

Fiste, also the varsity golf coach at St. Mary’s, captured his second club title in three years.

“Mike Bono and I are very good friends. We knew, from the start, it was going to be a tight final 36-hole match and it came right down to hole 36. The match could easily have gone either way,” Fiste said. “Match play is much less stressful at the beginning of a round than it is down the stretch. Trying to close out a match against an excellent player is not easy and mistakes escalate. I was up 3 holes at two different times, but Mike came back each time. I finally won on the 36th hole.”

Mike Marks defeated Pat McHale for the net club title, up 3 with 2 to play, while Mike Sullivan took down Paul Gorman for the senior club title, up 4 with 2 to play.
