No. 8 St. Mary’s softball team rallied from a six-run deficit to advance to the next round of the Division 3 tournament taking down No. 25 Montachusett RVT 15-6. 

The Spartans trailed 6-0 in the third inning before scoring 15 unanswered runs. Sydney Wells led the comeback, driving in four runs on three hits, including a home run. Abbey Sousa (3-for-5 3 RBI) highlighted an 11-run sixth inning with a two-run homer.

Adyson Newhall earned the win in relief, allowing four hits and no runs over 4 1/3 innings.

BASEBALL

Collin Thornburgh tossed a complete-game shutout as St. John’s Prep advanced to the Division 1 Sweet 16.

Maxwell Parent drove in two runs, while Connor Durney added a two-run homer to power the Eagles’ offense.

No. 4 Milton 6

No. 29 Marblehead 3

Down 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning with one out, Marblehead’s Greyson Leventhal hit a RBI triple to tie the game. Then with two outs, Leventhal reacted fast to a wild pitch to score the go-ahead run. 

In the bottom of the seventh, Milton had bases loaded and the Wildcats walked it off with a grand slam by Teddy Dunn to end the Magicians (13-9) season. 

Milton will face No. 13 Grafton in the next round. 

BOYS LACROSSE

No. 2 St. John’s Prep 13

No. 31 Arlington 6

Despite challenging weather conditions, St. John’s Prep built an 8-0 halftime lead and controlled the game throughout.

Ryan McCarthy recorded a hat trick, while Beckett Lee, Cam Mitchell and Ryan Finkle each scored twice for the Eagles.

St. John’s Prep will host No. 15 Needham on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.

No. 11 Advanced Math & Science 12

Lynnfield pulled off a road upset over No. 11 Advanced Math & Science to advance to the Division 4 Sweet 16.

Sean Bridges and Sam Curley each scored five goals, while Brendan Driscoll totaled two goals and an assist, collected 12 ground balls and won 65% of his faceoffs. John Powers added two goals and two assists.

Goaltender Sean Santo made 11 saves for the Pioneers.

Lynnfield will face the winner of Monday’s matchup between No. 6 Abington and No. 27 South Hadley.

St. Mary’s saw its season come to an end with a loss to a strong Hanover squad in the Division 3 tournament.

The Spartans finish the season with a 13-6 record.

GIRLS LACROSSE

No. 6 St. Mary’s 10

St. Mary’s continued its historic season by advancing to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history.

Shaye Denning scored four goals and Ava Nason added three for the Spartans. Katelin Aloi anchored the defense in goal. St. Mary’s will face No. 3 Nashoba Regional on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

BOYS TENNIS

No. 5 Marblehead 4

No. 21 Grafton 1

Marblehead advanced to the Elite Eight with a strong performance against Grafton.

At first doubles, Adam Loughlin and Alex Boehning rebounded from a first-set loss to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Filip Wabno and Cordt Menzler earned a 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 10-2 victory at second doubles.

Ty Cooper won 6-3, 6-1 at singles, while TJ Kelly prevailed 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.

Marblehead will face the winner of No. 4 Walpole and No. 13 Burlington, who are scheduled to play Tuesday.

GIRLS TENNIS

Swampscott cruised past Pentucket Regional to advance.

At singles, Ginger Gregoire and Ana Eccles each won 6-0, 6-0, while Nikki Carr earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at first singles.

The O’Donnell twins won 6-2, 6-1 at first doubles, and Lilly Carr and Eve Byrne posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at second doubles.

Swampscott will host No. 11 Bishop Fenwick on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
