LYNN — Three Lynn students were honored by the Veterans Council last Wednesday, each awarded a scholarship from the U.S. Marines’ Lance Cpl. Bradley J. Campus Memorial Scholarship Program.

A Lynn native, Bradley J. Campus, was killed in the Beirut barracks bombing on Oct. 23, 1983, in Lebanon. This is the second year scholarships have been given in Campus’ name.

This year’s recipients from Lynn Classical High School were McKenna Duncan and Bridget Toomey, who each received $1,000.

From Lynn English High School, Ghafour Diallo received a $1,000 scholarship from the Veterans Council.

Vice president of the Veterans Council and treasurer of the Bradley J. Campus Memorial Scholarship Fund, Charles Griffin, said it was “just a great opportunity to recognize some great kids from the high schools. We had a bunch of people put in applications, and it was very difficult to pick the three kids because they were all fantastic. But it’s also just a real neat thing to honor Brad’s service and sacrifice, and I know he’d be tickled pink that we were using his name to help these kids out in their future endeavors.”

The scholarship program is open to Lynn students in their senior year of high school who will attend a state- or nationally accredited college or university in the fall of 2026 or who have joined the Armed Forces.

Awarding of the scholarships is based on academic merit, awards and recognitions, extracurricular and community service activities, and an original essay of no more than 500 words answering the question: “What is the significance of Memorial Day and what does it mean to you?”
