Saugus Teen Center launches free summer program

SAUGUS — The Boys & Girls Club Saugus Teen Center will offer a free summer program for middle and high school students this year from June 23 to Aug. 27.

The center will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m. at the Square One Mall and provide a safe space for teens to hang out and “spend their summer with friends, positive mentors, and hands-on activities that match their interests,” according to a press release.

The typical membership cost at the center is $12 a month.

Activities include e-sports, gaming, art, STEM, music, recording, and field trips.

In e-sports, teens can participate in competitive gaming and tournaments, and spend time in the gaming lounge. For art and STEM, teens will have the chance to sharpen their painting and design skills, take part in creative projects, and express themselves freely, with all supplies provided. Teens can also use the center’s music studio and recording equipment and learn new skills.

Teens will go on adventures and visit local attractions through field trips.

The center will also have a fifth-grade transition week after school, beginning the week of June 8.

“Incoming fifth graders can attend free from 2:30 to 7 p.m. to meet staff, explore the Teen Center, and get comfortable before middle school begins,” the release said.

This will give incoming sixth-graders the chance to meet new friends before the school year starts, explore the space, spend time in a safe environment after school, and learn about the center before September.

“We want teens to have a place where they can have fun, try new things, and feel connected all summer long,” Saugus Teen Center Coordinator Casey Dowd said. “Whether they’re interested in gaming, music, art, hanging out with friends, or joining field trips, there’s something here for everyone.”

Families can visit the Boys & Girls Club of Metro North website at bgcmetronorth.org for more information or to register.
