Saugus concerts hit a high note

SAUGUS — The Summer Concerts at the Saugus Iron Works are kicking off on Wednesday, beginning two months of music at the historical site.

The concerts, a partnership between the Saugus Public Library and the National Park Service, will go from July 1 to Aug. 19 with shows beginning at 6 p.m. on the big lawn.

“The Saugus Public Library is pleased to be partnering again this year with the National Park Service, and we’re excited about this year’s series of eight free outdoor summer concerts,” Alan Thibeault, director of the Saugus Public Library, said in a press release. “Our partnership with the Saugus Iron Works provides enriching outdoor opportunities for our patrons. We’re grateful to the NPS for making the historic Saugus Iron Works available to our citizens through programs and events such as this concert series, our outdoor Story Hours, and other family-friendly library events.”

The first show will feature Atwater-Donnelly, a traditional American and Celtic folk music and dance group. July 8 will feature The Brian Maes Band for some rock and roll. Renee & The Renegades will take the stage on July 15, playing pop, rock, vintage country, and Irish folk. July 22 will feature the Memorylaners for some ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s covers. The final July band will be Ditto with folk and rock from the ’60s and ’70s.

The Implications will kick off the August shows with country, rock, and R&B on Aug. 5. A Cajun and Zydeco sound will be heard on Aug. 12 from Squeezebox Stompers. Coco Brown and the Invitation will take the finale slot on Aug. 19 with Motown and soul.

The concerts will be free, and weather cancellations and more information can be found on the library website.
