Roundup: Tournament-bound Tanners escape Medford

Rain or shine, it was the same mission for Peabody’s girls lacrosse team Thursday: go to Medford High and take care of business.

The Tanners (No. 34 in Div. 2) did just that, punching their ticket to the Div. 2 state tournament with a 15-10 victory against the Mustangs (No. 36 in Div. 1).

Sophia Galbiati, Leah Bresnahan, Arianna Alvarado, Victoria Vaz, and Elizabeth Moore led the offense, while Galbiati, Vaz, and Alvarado were effective with draw controls.

“Leah Ruffing was a huge factor on defense, along with Bella Kassis, with multiple turnovers and ground ball recoveries,” said first-year Peabody coach Jess Upton. “Eleni Spack was amazing in net. Our drawtakers started to win the draw and win the 50/50s, which changed the game.”

Peabody visits nearby foe Bishop Fenwick Saturday at 3 p.m.
