Saugus’ boys basketball team upped its record to 4-9 on the season after conquering the Winthrop Vikings at home, 64-59, Thursday night. 

Danny Shea was the star of the show with 29 points – one of two Sachems in double figures. Shea has been on a tear lately, sporting 18 points against Swampscott, 11 against Danvers, 11 against Gloucester, 16 against Saugus Pioneer Charter, and 13 against Marblehead – all from this month.

He was followed by Huey Josama (11 points), Cam Victor (9), Cam Soroko (6), Isaiah Rodriguez (5), and Ryan Shea (4).

Saugus hosts Dracut at home on Tuesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynnfield 68

Amesbury 46

No home court, no problem for Lynnfield’s boys basketball team, which upped its record to 9-3 after defeating Amesbury Thursday night.

In the 68-46 stomping, Chris Daniels (16 points, 12 rebounds), Alex Fleming (14 points, 12 rebounds), Iain McCarthy (13 points), and Harris Hadzihasanovic (8 points) led the Pioneers’ charge.

Lynnfield sits at 7-2 in the Cape Ann League.

Beverly 45

The Tanners kept their spot as the top team in the Northeastern Conference after taming the Panthers of Beverly, 50-45. Peabody clawed all the way back from a nine-point halftime deficit. 

Anthony Forte with his hot hand, John Lucas, and Cam Connolly delivered with strong games for the Tanners.

A double digit win, a road win, and an 8-6 record. Not bad, KIPP.

Against Notre Dame Thursday night, sharpshooting Hailey Herrera was 5-for-5 from downtown and scored 19 points. Katrina Fortes scored 12 points and hauled in 13 boards.

Despite Peabody coming back from a 16-point deficit at the half, it “couldn’t finish the job,” as said by coach Stan McKeen.

In the one-point heartbreaker, Aliana Ryan (16 points), Logan Lomasney (16 points, 10 rebounds), and Abby Bettencourt (9 points, 8 assists, 7 steals) all came to play. McKeen added that Lizzie Bettencourt played well for Peabody, which faces off against Lincoln-Sudbury on Saturday.

Thanks to strong performances from Ella Castle (17 points), Peyton DiBiasio (12), and Ashleen Escobar (11), the Saugus girls basketball team stole one from Winthrop on the road.

Devany Millerick and Madi Femino played strong defense down the stretch, and the Vikings had no answer late.
