Ramiz Raja Sends Legal Notice To Kamran Akmal For Defamatory, False Claims Against The Board

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman has served a legal notice against Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal for allegedly making defamatory, false, and offensive comments on his YouTube channel against the Babar Azam-led team’s performance in the T20 World Cup.

A source close to Kamran confirmed that he received a notice from the board’s legal department, served on behalf of chairman Ramiz Raja. The former cricketers slammed Pakistan after they lost their first two matches to India and Zimbabwe in the Super 12 stage of the recently concluded World Cup in Australia.

Legal Notice Has Been Sent To Kamran Akmal

It was unclear which of Akmal’s comments offended PCB chief Raja, forcing him to issue a legal notice, but they were deemed defamatory and offensive. If the report is correct, more legal letters could be issued to other former players who have their own YouTube channels and “cross the line while criticizing the team’s performance.”

“I don’t know exactly what charges they have made against Kamran but apparently the legal notice has been sent because the chairman feels Kamran made defamatory, false and offensive comments in the media about him,” a source close to the developments told PTI.

“Some of them clearly cross the line while criticising the team, management, board and chairman and Ramiz has made it clear he is not going to tolerate anyone running down or defaming Pakistan cricket anymore,” the source said.

Pakistan suffered a five-wicket loss in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final. The Babar Azam-led side managed to score 137/8, and England chased down the target with six balls to spare. Ben Stokes scored an unbeaten 52 off 49 balls to lead the team to victory.

Pakistan had a very low chance of reaching the semi-finals following their losses to India and Zimbabwe, but they managed to win over the Netherlands, South Africa, and Bangladesh. The Men in Green made the most of the opportunity after South Africa’s shock defeat against the Netherlands.
