SALEM — Plummer Youth Promise will celebrate the reopening of the historic Caroline Plummer House and honor the community that made this restoration possible with a Ribbon Cutting Celebration and Open House on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The organization, which helps children and teens connect with family, whether biological or chosen, received a $350,000 match pledge to help reach its $25 million goal for its capital campaign. The anonymous donor has pledged to match all donations up to $350,000 made through June 30th, 2026, which will assist Plummer as they seek to raise the remaining $3.6 million for their campus renovation.
“I can’t quite believe we’re days away from completing this multi-year project – the first for us since Plummer opened in 1870. The revived campus is a game-changer for youth and families, offering dignity and privacy essential to health, well-being, and healing.” Stated Nicole McLaughlin, Executive Director of Plummer Youth Promise.
In 2022, Plummer Youth Promise began its capital renovation, building a new residential building to offer much-needed privacy and dignity for youth on site. With the new building completed in 2025, restoration began on the historic Caroline Plummer House, which was built in 1870.
Plummer Youth Promise’s new campus will be net neutral thanks to an extensive solar and geothermal installation. Designed by Michael Whitmore of Roundel47 and developed by Groom Construction, the campus incorporated youth feedback as well as research from local and national conservation groups.
“Groom Construction has been a proud partner of Plummer Youth Promise, and we are grateful to help usher them into the future with a campus that matches the standard of excellence they demonstrate in their work,” stated David Groom, Principal of Groom Construction. “From incorporating youth residents’ design feedback to conservation and historic preservation considerations, this project has been a testament to deep collaboration and inclusion,” added Bernadette Butterfield, Senior Vice President of Business Strategy and Development for Groom Construction.
