PEABODY — A Peabody man has been arrested and charged with allegedly transporting child pornography after authorities discovered child sexual abuse material on his cellphone during an inspection at Boston Logan International Airport.

Felix Santos, 34, was charged by criminal complaint with one count of transporting child pornography. He was arrested and appeared in court in Boston on Tuesday.

Court documents state that Santos was referred to a secondary inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers after arriving at Logan Airport from the Dominican Republic on May 18. During a search of his cellphone, authorities allegedly found at least 20 photos and 952 videos depicting child sexual abuse materials.

The charge of transporting child pornography provides for a sentence of at least five years and up to 20 years in prison, at least five years and up to a lifetime of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley and Jeff Grimming, acting special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England made the announcement Wednesday. Assistance was provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Boston Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Conroy of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in the court of law.
