LYNN — The fourth meet of the Lynn Youth Summer Track Meet Series welcomed ideal weather for running, jumping and throwing, with 80 young athletes competing this past Monday. Participation continued to grow, pushing the total number of registered athletes to nearly 200.

In the toddlers girls 30-meter race (ages 3 and under), first-time participant Perry Belle, 3, of Lynn took first place in 12.8 seconds. Leo Maniatis, 3, won the boys race in 9.3 seconds.

The girls 50-meter race ended in a tie, as Lynn’s Mia Armstrong and Yeneli Moronta each posted a time of 7.7 seconds in separate heats.

Armstrong has turned in some of the fastest performances of the summer, winning the 100 meters in 14.8 seconds. Moronta has been her toughest challenger, with Armstrong edging her by four-tenths of a second in the 200 meters.

Twelve-year-old Zakhi Barboza of Lynn continued his strong season with a 7.1-second finish in the boys 50 meters, narrowly defeating James Wilson, 13, of Lynn, who finished in 7.5 seconds. The two swapped places in the 100 meters, with Wilson taking second in 14.2 seconds and Barboza finishing third in 14.8. Newcomer Tivon Lear won the event in 13.9 seconds.

Gael Delacruz, 9, of Peabody finished third in the 50 meters in 8.3 seconds. He later placed fourth in the 100 meters before winning the 200 meters in 36.3 seconds.

Lynn’s Nathalia Lopez, 15, won the girls 400 meters with a 1:13 time. On the boys side, Wilson captured the 400-meter title in 1:24.1 and won the mile in 6:44.8.

Abigail Lamothe improved her mile time by seven seconds, winning the event in 7:54.4.

The fifth meet will be held Monday and will feature a hybrid relay, giving athletes the opportunity to experience receiving and passing batons.

The Lynn Parks & Recreation Department continues to offer the free summer track series, providing athletes from communities throughout the region the opportunity to compete.
