Muffin finds the recipe for happiness

LYNN — A female bulldog mix with a battered past has found her forever home after the majority of the year in recovery.

Following a civilian report about an injured stray dog on October 1, 2025, animal control responded to the location, where they found the severely injured animal.

The dog, now known as Muffin, was found in a backyard adjacent to a wooded area, lying in a pool of her own blood, caused by several open bite wounds on her neck, throat, and shoulder, according to a statement made by the Lynn Animal Control Department.

The department revealed that Muffin was then promptly brought to the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital in Woburn to stabilize her substantial injuries before being brought back into the care of the animal control.

Lynn Animal Control shared that a veterinary examination determined that Muffin’s injuries were consistent with a dog or coyote attack. Considering the backyard where she was found was adjacent to an open wooded area, it was assumed the injuries were sustained during a coyote attack.

Muffin was then placed into a mandatory state-mandated 4-month-long quarantine period, which occurs when a domestic animal has been bitten by another animal or a wild animal, according to the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture 330 CMR 30.05 regulation. She then joined the agency for an additional 4 months, where she waited to be adopted by a new family.

When found, Muffin had no owner identification, which led the department to reach out on Facebook looking for the owner. No one claimed Muffin as their own, animal control said in their Facebook update

With no previous owner taking accountability for Muffin, she remained in animal control’s care for more than eight months as she recovered.

This week, Muffin was adopted by her forever family and is continuing to thrive.

“Lynn Animal Control and the Lynn Police Department would like to extend their heartfelt congratulations to Muffin’s new family and thank them for giving her the loving home she deserves,” according to Lynn Animal Control’s statement. “We wish Muffin and her family many years of happiness together.”
