MARBLEHEAD — After a nasty storm on July 6, the Crocker Park dock was left too damaged to use. Marblehead’s Town Administrator Thatcher W. Kezer III gave an update on the status of the dock and a plan for a possible replacement dock. 

To the dismay of Crocker Park swimmers, the dock remains too damaged to use. According to Kezer, Harbormaster Mark Souza and his crew will not be able to fix the dock in time for summer use. 

The harbor crew is focused on the water currently, making any potential repairs difficult to do until after the summer season ends. Both the harbormaster and marina services in Marblehead are searching for a temporary dock to use until the end of the boating season. 

“We’re not going to be able to use it. We’re not going to be able to build a new dock in time,” Kezer said. “The Harbormaster is now reaching out to other harbors, other communities and looking for a temporary dock that we can secure for the remainder of the season.” 

In addition, Kezer discussed the need for a renewal of marina services that allow the docks to be removed from the water during the off-season.

“That’s really not going to change the status of the dock,” Kezer said. “That’s an isolated project right now. Like I said, we’re looking for a temporary or borrowed dock to put there.”

There is hope that an agreement can be made between the neighboring towns so that Crocker Park can be accessed again for swimmers. For now, Souza and the harbor crew will continue the search for a replacement dock.
