The Greater Boston Stage Company has announced their upcoming Young Company Summer Festival, which will feature 100 young performers, ranging from grade four through 12, in five fully staged musicals ranging from Disney classics to hits on Broadway.

This year, five youth from both Lynnfield and Peabody will participate in musical acts throughout August, including the production of “Footloose: The Musical” from Aug. 7-9, which will feature Lynnfield’s Belle M., who will play Rusty, as well as Peabody’s Allyson B., who has been casted as Eleanor Dunbar, and Peabody’s Stella L. as Ariel Moore.

“It’s really been so much fun, and it’s been great working on music and blocking and really learning strengthening our show,” Stella L. said. “Doing it with your friends is just such a great experience, too, because you know we’re just all having so much fun. It’s gonna be a great show.”

Directed by Tader Shipley, the musical is comprised of actors from grades 10-12, as well as the 2026 graduates, and is being choreographed by Erin Faria, music directed by Rena Marthaler, and stage managed by Madelyn Traynor.

On Aug. 14-16, two youth from Peabody have been casted in the family-friendly musical of “Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR,” including Emily K. as Carlotta and Emily W. as Andrina. The show, which will feature actors from grades four through six, will be directed by Katherine Gustafson, choreographed by Abigail Martin, music directed by Carrie Tully, and stage managed by Maisey O’Brien.

“Summer Festival is one of the highlights of our year,” said Autumn Blazon-Brown, director of education at Greater Boston Stage Company. “Over the course of just a few weeks, students build lasting friendships, develop confidence, strengthen their artistic skills, and create truly remarkable theatre together. Watching their growth from the first rehearsal to opening night is inspiring, and we can’t wait to share these productions with our community.”

The Greater Boston Stage Company is celebrating its 27th season of live theater, as well as the continuation of their classes, lessons, and fully staged productions through The Young Company at Greater Boston Stage Company, which is committed to helping the next generation of artists grow in their craft, serve as better audience members, help others, and even learn how to better collaborate and work together. Through the educational program, students will also further develop their skills as an actor, gain confidence, and establish a sense of self-discipline when working directly productions alongside professionals.

“You learn a lot about yourself as an actor and just a performer in general,” Stella L. said of her experience in the program thus far. “You learn what your strengths are and also the things you need to work on. It’s really great because you get to work with the creative teams and really strengthen what you want to work on this summer.”

This year’s Summer Festival provides students with a unique opportunity to learn and collaborate with professional directors, choreographers, designers, and theater artists, as well as receive intensive rehearsal and training. The event will also feature shows like “Singin’ in the Rain JR.,” and both “Disney’s Camp Rock The Musical,” and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” which tells the story of six middle school students who are competing for a spelling bee championship.
