Run, after run, after run.

That’s how the Saugus baseball and softball teams executed in their Wednesday evening matchups. The baseball squad tripled up Danvers, 9-3, while the softballers exploded against Winthrop in a 17-1 final.

“That gives us our 10th win, which clinches the state tournament for the eighth consecutive season,” said softball coach Steve Almquist, whose Lady Sachems stand at 10-9. “The kids worked hard and I’m very proud of them.”

Taylor Deleidi went the distance, allowing just four hits and a run. Offensively, Saugus was led by Alannah Duong (hit), Hannah Duong (RBI), Arianna Chianca (hit), Paige Hogan (RBI), Bella Natalucci (RBI), Maya Peña (walk, RBI), and Maria Silva (RBI).

“All of these guys are so important to our team,” Almquist said.

The baseball team also received a complete game – this one from Cam Soroko. He punched out 15 batters and allowed just three hits. Shane Bourque led the offense, going 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run. 

The Sachems went home with 12 hits from six players.

Revere 1

The Rams clinched their spot in the state tournament with a versatile win against the Patriots. Several players contributed, and you could say coach Leon Elwell couldn’t have been happier.

“I feel great. I’m really happy for the kids. Not a lot of people gave us a chance to get in with a new coach and a large turnover,” he said. “We have 16 freshmen in the program. I’m really excited about this year and, overall, what we’re building.”

Christian Figueroa (2 hits) went the distance, allowing two hits and punching out nine batters. Some others who came to play were Alfred Ventura (2 hits, 2 runs, RBI), Yoniel Cabral (2 hits, 3 RBI), and “Brendan Ohannesian played very well at third base,” according to Elwell.

SOFTBALL

Lynn Classical 6

Revere (14-5) plated three runs in the sixth inning to escape Classical’s (9-8) grasp. Rachel Dana (7 IP, 5 H, 8 K, 3 ER) spun a gem, while Lauren Wilson went home with an RBI single. 

“Rachel threw her best game of the year [and] really only one ball was hit hard,” said Classical coach Joe Morin. “Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes in the field behind her.”

The Pioneers (6-10 Cape Ann League) wrapped up the regular season with an 8-12 record, falling to Pentucket on Wednesday. Catie Kampersal (hit), Ava Gamache (RBI), Kaila George (RBI), and Libby Considine (RBI) led the offense.

“Hopefully, we can hang on to a home game in the Division 4 Round of 32,” said coach Hector Longo.

Marblehead’s (16-3) Ruby Calienes allowed just three hits and struck out five batters in her team’s three-run, home win against Boston Latin. Lyla McGovern and Eva Walton each went 2-for-3, while Luka Bornhorst knocked in two runs with a triple in the fourth inning.

Peabody has been on a roll as of late, but was doubled up by a “talented” Ipswich squad, as said by Tanners’ coach Michelle Roach. Leading the way in defeat were Brooke Lomasney (3 goals, 2 assists), Ally Bettencourt (goal, 3 assists), Victoria Vaz (goal), Connie Patturelli (goal), and Caitlin Snow (8 saves).

In set scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-17, and 25-22, the Tigers (10-8) clinched a state tournament berth Wednesday. Ederick Gonzalez (15 kills, 4 aces), Felipe De Oliveira (21 digs), Didlaire Jacques Jr. (7 aces, 6 blocks, 4 kills), Elmer Duran (17 assists, 2 aces, 2 digs), Keury Mena (10 digs), and Anthoni Diaz (6 kills) led the Tech charge.

No home advantage, no problem for Classical (8-5), which cruised by the Bulldogs in a 4-1 final. Victor Bun, Axil Ortiz, and Andy Ly recorded singles wins, while Donovan Lam and Ori Beato capitalized in first doubles.

St. John’s Prep 5

Andover 0

The Prep kept its perfect record (16-0) intact, knocking down Andover in a sweep. John DeAngelis, Jack Prokopis, and Luke Free owned the singles department, while the doubles duos of Luke Prokopis-Boris Kouzminov and Mark McDuffee-Alex Melville got the job done, too.

The Eagles fly into their final matchup of the regular season Thursday against St. John’s Shrewsbury.

GIRLS TENNIS

Rockport 1

Lynnfield upped its record to 11-6 with a decisive win over Rockport. Partners-in-crime Paige Martino and Lily Alves took care of first and second singles, respectively, before Vicky McCrann and Emma Wagon were victorious in first doubles. From there, Bella Nguyen and Victoria Clancy cruised in second doubles.
