LYNN — Beyond Walls will kick off its annual Classroom to the Streets program on Monday, Aug. 3, bringing more than six new large-scale murals to downtown Lynn over the course of two weeks.

The program, which runs through Aug. 15, pairs local, national and international artists with Lynn educators and students to create public art inspired by the experiences and needs of the city’s schools. The murals will also serve as the foundation for lesson plans that will be introduced in Lynn classrooms this fall.

This year marks the first time Beyond Walls’ Junior Fellows — rising Lynn high school seniors — will help develop lesson plans and assist in teaching them to younger students. The program has also expanded to include science, technology, engineering and mathematics educators alongside art teachers, creating a full S.T.E.A.M. collaboration.

Featured artists include Bryan Beyung, Taylor White, Sophy Tuttle, Megan Oldhues, Jeks, Celso and Golden305. Murals will be installed at locations throughout the walkable downtown, including sites on Neptune Boulevard, Broad Street, Mt. Vernon Street, Silsbee Street, Munroe Street and Buffum Street.

As part of the Lynn Arts & Cultural Festival, Beyond Walls will offer a free guided mural tour from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The tour will depart from Beyond Walls headquarters, 18 Mt. Vernon St., and will give participants the opportunity to view existing murals while watching artists create the new works.

The program will conclude with a free community celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at 18 Mt. Vernon St. The event will feature mural unveilings, opportunities to meet participating artists, a “Learn to Spray Paint” experience led by Golden305, live music, and a barbecue.
