Peabody West advances, while Wyoma and East Lynn bow out

LYNN — District 16 action continued Thursday with a pair of 12-year-old All-Star matchups. Salem rallied back and escaped Wyoma, 6-3, while Peabody West shut down East Lynn, 11-1.

Wyoma played a down-to-the-wire game for the second consecutive evening. But this time, despite leading by a run (3-2) in the sixth inning and Salem down to its last out, it didn’t go as planned.

Salem rallied and plated four runs to advance in the tournament. Wyoma has been eliminated with its second loss.

Wyoma’s Marco Owumi “pitched very well,” according to manager Jeff Newhall. He allowed just five hits and two runs across five innings of work, striking out seven. Owumi helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run.

Peabody West, on the other hand, put on a show against East Lynn. Both teams needed a win to stay alive.

West’s Gaetano Fodero racked up a pair of hits, four RBI, and two runs. Ray Deihl-Butterworth roped East Lynn’s lone hit — a liner up the middle.

“Pitcher Luke Vargo pitched very well, but we just couldn’t get the bats going,” said East Lynn manager Tim Deihl, whose side committed three errors.
