LYNN — Organizers of the Frederick Douglass speech reading have canceled the event due to inclement weather.
The event was supposed to take place this Friday at Frederick Douglass Park, located at 25 Exchange St., and hosted by the North Shore Juneteenth Association.
The event was a public reading of Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July” speech.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s forecast calls for isolated showers and thunderstorms, with mostly sunny skies, and a high of 97 degrees. The heat index values are as high as 100, with a west wind of 9-13 mph. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
The reading was supposed to be attended by U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton, who has shifted his plans to celebrate the Fourth of July in Salem.
A date for the rescheduled event was not shared prior to press time.
