WESTFORD — The Swampscott girls tennis team reached the end of its journey, suffering a 3-2 defeat to No. 2 Dover-Sherborn in the Final 4 on Wednesday afternoon.
The No. 6 Big Blue enjoyed tremendous success, finishing the season with a 21-1 record and a Final 4 appearance, all under head coach Emily Cilley in her first season in charge. The loss to Dover-Sherborn marked Swampscott’s first defeat of the season and brought an end to one of the most successful campaigns in program history.
Swampscott put together an impressive tournament run to reach the state semifinals. The Big Blue opened the postseason with a victory over No. 38 seed Pentucket, then followed it up with wins against the No. 11 Bishop Fenwick and No. 3 Lynnfield to punch their ticket to the Final 4.
