Swampscott’s boys tennis team secured a 3-2 victory in Salem Wednesday — theatrics included.

Victor Zeissig recorded a singles win for the Big Blue, while Alex Levine and Jackson “Jax” Walker took care of first doubles. From there, it all came down to second doubles, when the freshmen pair of Jack Ford and Leo Hellmann-Flatt won a third-set, come-from-behind thriller.

“A fire was set within them during the match as they secured a win for the team with a score of 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. This was a momentous first win for the freshmen pair,” said Swampscott coach Kevin Merino-Rivas. “We hope to carry this momentum and this fire into our last match this week with a rematch against Lynnfield.”

Marblehead (6-2) worked its magic with a sweep of the Falcons (1-6). Ty Cooper, Alex Boehning, and Caleb Sidman went 1-2-3 in singles play, while the doubles teams of Adam Loughlin/Filip Wabno and Cordt Menzler/Jeff Kucharsky were also victorious.

Call it a Swampscott sweep behind singles wins from Lilly Carr, Janielle De La Cruz, and Eve Byrne. Sasha Fafel and Christy Spillane won first doubles, followed by a second doubles triumph from Fiona Flebbe and Sophia Armstrong.

Marblehead’s doubles teams of Joy Meshulam/Caroline Bruett and Harper Mooney/Annie Tucker picked up victories, as did Callie Gilmore and Samara Dosch in singles action.

“This is our fifth consecutive win. I’m really proud of the girls this week,” said Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman. “They are soaking up different techniques and ideas in practice, and applying them to matches. As a coach, I can’t ask for much more. We are looking forward to our rematch with Masco this week.”

A slow start was no problem for the Tigers, who were “ultimately able to settle in,” according to coach Eddie Lewis. Dylan Nordyke got the start, while Jaeran Quinones struck out five batters in relief. Leading the offense were Eddie Lewis Jr. (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 4 R), Colin Newhall (3-for-4, inside-the-park HR), and Quinones (2-for-3).

“We were looking to get back on track and today was a good start,” Lewis Sr. said. “I told the guys the focus wasn’t about winning and losing, rather being good teammates and playing the game the right way. I think we did a great job focusing on the concept, and getting the win was icing on the cake.”

Mark Walsh (7 IP, H, 0 ER, 11 K) did it all for Classical (6-5), going the distance and helping his own cause with a hit. Gendri Pereyra batted 2-for-3 with a run scored.

It took one more inning than usual, but Swampscott (7-3, 6-1 Northeastern Conference) delivered in the clutch against the Falcons. Jamison Ford tossed all eight innings, scattering five hits and striking out nine batters. Paul Calsimitto scored the winning run after pinch running for Michael Collins, who led the inning with a single. Chase Groothuis (2 RBI) and Caden Ross (2 H, RBI, 2 R, SB) also played well. Collins, from behind the plate, gunned down two Danvers runners attempting to steal.

Under the Fraser Field lights, St. Mary’s (9-1) extended its winning streak to nine games. Brennan Malloy went the distance, allowing one hit and striking out six batters. Leading the offense were Kalen Huddle (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 3 R) and Nate Cutone (2-for-2, RBI, 3 R).

Marblehead freshman Kiley Lewis (7 IP, 3 H, 2 K) stepped into the spotlight and delivered her first varsity win. Tessa Andriano pulled off a double play with help from her sister, Kate (1-for-3, RBI). Also contributing were Ashley Mortensen (2-for-4, RBI) and Lillian Reddy (2-for-3).

Aliza Crean-Oviedo (7 IP, H, 5 K) put on a show as the visiting Spartans improved to 7-2. Lina Owumi and Olivia DiSessa compiled RBI.

Saugus (5-6) led 3-0 and had the game tied 5-5, but couldn’t tame the Panthers. Sofia McCarrier “pitched a fantastic game,” according to Sachems’ coach Steve Almquist.

“Good back-and-forth game,” he said. “We just didn’t have enough to catch up, but it was a fantastic game from the kids. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Doing offensive damage for Saugus were Ari Chianca (2-for-4), Aubrey DeMonte (2-for-4, R), and Layla DeMonte (2B, 2 RBI).

No home field, no problem for the Jets (4-4), who climbed to .500 with a narrow victory. Denim Dembro ripped a hat trick, while Timmy Soeurn also found the back of the net.

St. Mary’s (4-4) rattled off its third consecutive win as Sal Brogna netted eight goals. Finn Racki scored a hat trick, while Adam Fila played well behind the pipes.

The Rams (10-3, 7-1 Greater Boston League) qualified for the state tournament through dominant set scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-9. Leading the charge were Kenzel Lantano (22 assists, 5 aces, 5 digs, block, kill), Riches Tep (11 kills, 8 digs, ace, block), and Long Pham (10 digs, 2 aces, assist).

“Kenzel and Riches were really strong tonight and led us from start to finish,” said Classical coach Chris LeBlanc. “Whenever we needed a serve, a kill, or a dig, it was one of those two who was in the middle of the action. We now have five days to prepare for Malden — another huge GBL matchup. Hopefully, we take the right approach in practice and continue to improve.”
