WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Swampscott shuts out Lynn English

Although early in the season, being one win above .500 goes a long way, as opposed to being under the mark. Swampscott’s baseball team (4-3) visited Fraser Field for a Saturday-night date with Lynn English, and left with an 8-0 victory.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher David Palmer registered the win in four innings. The game’s ace punched out eight and didn’t allow a hit. Junior right-hander Zach Alex took care of the final three innings, striking out six and conceding just one hit.

The Big Blue (3-2 in Northeastern Conference) offense was led by Jason Bouffard (2 hits, RBI, 2 runs, BB, HBP). Hits came from Nick Berube, Connor Chiarello, and Caden Ross, while RBI were recorded by Jami Ford, Frankie Pappalardo, Ross, and Berube.

For the Bulldogs, Kenry Manzanillo went home with a strong performance, according to coach Esteban Paula. The Bulldog connected on a single, walked twice, and stole three bags.

English visits Malden at 4 p.m. on Monday, while Swampscott looks to keep it going Wednesday in Saugus (4:30 p.m.).

BOYS LACROSSE

A strong performance from the Tanners, but it wasn’t enough to tame the Panthers of Beverly, who escaped with a one-goal victory. Peabody netminder Aiden Haight finished with 17 saves.

Johnny Lucas led the Tanners with pairs of goals and assists, while Jaden Kritikos netted a hat trick. Matt Bettencourt and Donald Cavanaugh also potted goals, and Derek Collins dished out two helpers.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Marblehead 13
Masconomet 12

A 6-6 halftime score was no problem for Marblehead’s girls lacrosse team, which upped its record to 2-4 with a 13-12 home win against Masconomet on Saturday.

Oh, and everyone got involved in this one.

Maddie Forbes took charge with five goals and five assists, followed by Ramona Gillett (2 assists, 2 ground balls), Gretchen Smith (3 goals), Caroline Scroope (goal, assist), Rachel Delisle (2 goals), Kathryn Commoss (2 goals), Cassidy Lubeck (assist), Whitney Jellison (2 interceptions), Kate Burns (interception), and Molly Bullard (12 saves).

In a perfect start to the weekend, Michelle Roach’s Tanners knocked down Beverly by a score of 7-6. You can thank Ally Bettencourt (4 goals) for finding game-winning twine in overtime.

Brooke Lomasney had two assists, Madi Barrett scored twice, Victoria Vaz potted another, and Caitlin Snow made 10 big saves between the pipes.
