Two more arraigned in Lynn 2023 fatal shooting

LYNN — Darwin Batista, 20, of Lynn, and Abel Severino Reyes, 21, of Lynn, were arraigned at Lynn District Court on Friday in connection with the September 2023 drive-by shooting on Essex Street that resulted in two deaths.

Batista and Severino Reyes are two of six suspects who have been charged in the case.

Carlos Ramirez Corniel, 16, of Lynn, was arraigned on July 18; Justin Alba, 25, of Peabody, was arraigned on July 25; and Leonardo Espinoza, 15, of Lynn, was arraigned on July 26. Yefferson Vallecillo Cambar, 22, of Lynn, has not been arraigned yet. The time and date of his arraignment has not been released.

The shooting took place at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023 at a gathering held at 189 Essex St. The shooting left Jandriel Heredia, 21, of Revere, and Abraham Diaz, 25, of Lynn, dead and five others injured.

The six suspects have each been charged with two counts of murder.

Additionally, Alba, Batista, Vallecillo Cambar, and Severino Reyes have each been charged with one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to criminal-complaint documents.

All suspects, with the exception of Vallecillo Cambar, had video-conference probable-cause hearings scheduled at their arraignments.

Alba’s hearing will take place Aug. 20. The hearings for Ramirez Corniel and Espinoza will take place Aug. 29. The hearings for Batista and Severino Reyes will take place Sept. 23.
