Two dead in second night of gun violence in Lynn

For the second night in a row, gun violence rocked the City of Lynn.

Two teenagers were killed by gunfire Wednesday night on Camden Avenue.

According to a news release from Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker, at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, Lynn police responded to numerous 911 calls of shots fired near 10 Camden St.

Responding officers located two males who had sustained gunshot wounds. Both were transported to North Shore Medical Center.

A 16-year-old male was pronounced dead in the emergency room, and a 19-year-old man died of his injuries later at the hospital.

The district attorney’s office is withholding the names of the victims pending notification of next of kin.

This was the second night of gun violence in the city.

Three people sustained gunshot wounds in a Tuesday night shooting outside a Pizza Hut on State Street.

The three victims were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and are in stable condition, according to the district attorney’s office.

When asked if the two incidents were related, a spokesperson for the district attorney’s office said that all leads and theories are being explored.

“Effects of gun violence are devastating, especially when young people are involved and losing their lives,” Tucker said in the news release. “Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to my office, the Lynn Police, and Lynn officials are committed to exhausting every possible resource in an effort to interrupt this pattern of senseless violence.”

Lynn Police Chief Christopher Reddy said investigators believe both incidents were targeted attacks.

“The Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police have committed significant resources to these investigations and will continue to do so until the offenders are held accountable,” Reddy said in the news release.

Mayor Jared Nicholson released a statement Thursday morning.

“We offer condolences to the families of the two victims in last night’s shooting, and we will offer support to the school communities grieving these losses,” Nicholson said. “We appreciate our law enforcement team for all their intensive efforts over the last two days. This violence is devastating, infuriating, and utterly unacceptable. We will respond with increased police presence as needed and renewed urgency and clarity in our efforts for peace, justice, and a safer community.”

Anyone with any information on either of the two incidents are asked to contact investigators at 781-477-3190.
