SWAMPSCOTT — Resident Charlie Patsios is set to donate 12 bicycles to children in town this month.
The well-known real-estate agent, Board of Assessors chair, and Housing Authority member purchased the brand-new, 18-speed Benotto bikes from Ralph Caruso of Caruso Companies earlier this summer.
Patsios plans on distributing the bikes through both the Housing Authority and Swampscott High School, as he said they are best suited to determine the children who are most in need of them.
Director of Public Works Gino Cresta volunteered to assemble them, which takes approximately one hour per bike.
“I always like to help him out,” Cresta said about Patsios.
Patsios hopes the bikes will provide children with the transportation they need during the remainder of the summer and throughout the upcoming school year. He believes they will be ready for distribution by Thursday, Aug. 15.
“I love my town, I had the means, and I wanted to contribute,” Patsios said.
Patsios gave credit to his wife, Mary, for her participation. He also recently worked with Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson to donate 15 bikes to children in Lynn.
