The Road to Oz runs through Exchange Street

Dorothy and Toto may not be in Kansas anymore, but they will be in downtown Lynn this week.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lynn will present its first theatrical production when it stages “The Magical Land of Oz” on Thursday and Friday at the Neal Rantoul Vault Theatre at 25 Exchange St. The showtime is 5:30 p.m. both days and admission is free.

There are approximately 25 Boys & Girls Club members, ages 8-12, in the musical production, a simplified version of the “Wizard of Oz” written by Tim Kelly, with music and lyrics by Bill Franco and based on the L. Frank Baum book.

Josenny Duran is the director and Jayleane Hearns is the choreographer. The set was created by cast members. Keystone Club members will be selling concessions at the productions.

“I am extremely proud of the cast for putting this together the way they have,” Duran said. “For the majority of the members, this is their first time ever being in a play, memorizing lines, and reading sheet music. The kids have worked so hard to learn stage blocking, choreography, build set pieces, and so much more.”

The production is supported by more than $5,500 in sponsorships, led by major sponsors Farquhar and Black Insurance and McGrath Enterprises. The Lynn Music Foundation provided the space for the show to be staged.
