Team of the Week - Endicott College softball

You know what I’ve been thinking? A 7-2 start isn’t bad – it’s even better when you outscore opponents, 22-3, across a three-game stretch.

When it comes to Endicott College’s softball team in Beverly, it’s chock full of local players and coaches. First things first, Peabody’s Katie Bettencourt commands the ship alongside David Bettencourt, her father and an assistant on the staff.

As for local players, Lynnfield’s Chloe Shapleigh has 14 hits and three home runs; St. Mary’s Christina Nowicki has nine hits and seven RBI; and Swampscott’s Katie Watts has sported nine hits and seven runs.

Endicott defeated Framingham State, Old Westbury, and Westminster (Mo.) down in Clermont, Florida this past Thursday. Of the Gulls’ seven wins this season, they’ve put up five or more runs in each and every one of them.

Time will tell, but things are off to a smooth start for the Green and Blue after a 36-9 record last spring. Endicott hosts Curry College in a double-header this Saturday beginning at noon.

Gulls, good week.
