Despite holding a 2-0 lead Thursday, Lynnfield’s baseball team reached the end of the road. The No. 28 Pioneers were upset by No. 37 Stoneham, 9-3, in the Div. 3 state tournament.
“Not our best effort at all,” said Lynnfield coach John O’Brien. “We imploded for one inning and I’d say we left 10 or 12 guys on base.”
Lynnfield checked out with a 10-11 record.
“I want to thank my seniors — Matt Tracy, Drew George, Luke DiSilvio, Harris Hadzihasanovic, Joe Wozniak, Dylan Nguyen, and Will Mandile. They didn’t quit. We had the bases loaded twice, but couldn’t score,” O’Brien said, “and I want to thank my coaches, who did a great job this year.
