Sept. 22: Mattituck 9, Hampton Bays 0

Junior Sam Quartararo shot a 3-over-par 38 on the front nine at Cherry Creek Golf Links for the Tuckers (4-3) in a Suffolk VII match.

On Sept. 16, Quartararo shot a 1-under 35 on the front nine of the Laurel Links Golf Club as Mattituck downed Shelter Island (2-1-0, 2-1-0), 8-1, in Suffolk VII.

BOYS SOCCER

Sept. 22: Mattituck 7, Pierson 0

Senior midfielder Andy Mancia scored twice and set up two goals for the Tuckers (5-0-1, 4-0) in a Suffolk County League VI match over the host Whalers (1-6, 1-5). Senior Franklyn Secaida also contributed two goals. Junior forward Connor Searl (team-high six goals) added a goal and two assists. Wilmer Giron and Jose Chapeton also found the net for Mattituck, which is ranked fourth among Class B teams in the state.

Defender Dylan Palencia and forward Charlie Carter had one assist apiece. Senior goalkeeper Cris Cuellar, who also assisted on a goal, made four saves to record his third shutout.

Searl tallied two goals, and Carter added one as Mattituck recorded a 3-1 non-league win at Bellport (1-3-1) on Sept. 17. Mancia set up two scores. Cuellar was credited with six saves.

On Sept. 19, Searl scored as Mattituck (4-0-1) played to a 1-1 tie at Rocky Point in a non-league encounter. Cuellar made four saves.

Sept. 22: Center Moriches 4, Southold 0

The Settlers fell to 2-4-1, 2-3-0 in the Division III match, while the Red Devils improved to 6-4, 5-2.

After three consecutive shutouts to start the season, the Settlers suffered two 4-0 defeats. On Sept. 16, they lost at Southampton (5-1, 4-0), which scored four unanswered goals in the second half of the League VI match. James Garvin and Ulisses Lopez each finished with a goal and an assist. On Sept. 18, Eastport-South Manor (2-5, 1-4) scored two goals in each half at home. Southold keeper Grady Brigham stood out with 15 saves.

Sept. 22: Babylon 6, Greenport 2

David Chapeton scored a goal in each half for the Porters (1-6-1, 1-5-0) in the League VI home game. The contest was tied 1-1 at halftime before the Panthers broke it open with five second-half tallies. Lenric Mejia led the Panthers (3-4, 3-2) with a hat-trick. Goalie Jesus Rios made 13 saves.

Greenport dropped a 4-0 decision at Smithtown Christian (2-0-0, 2-0-0) in League VI on Sept. 18. Goalie Walter Tzun Zarate was called on to make eight saves. Lucas Abreu led the Knights with two goals. In another league match on Sept. 16, Tzun Zarate also produced eight saves in a 3-0 defeat at Center Moriches (4-4-0, 3-2-0). Ethan Chernis finished with a goal and an assist for the Red Devils.

GIRLS SOCCER

Sept. 22: MSG 5, Southampton 1

Devin Stanton and Sophia Boyle scored two goals each as MSG (2-4-1, 1-4-1) snapped a five-game winless streak (0-4-1) in a Division III contest. Reese McKenna added a goal. Ida Reinger set up three goals, while her sister, Charlotte, had one assist. Keeper Hunter Mackey had two saves.

Stanton recorded a brace, scoring once in each half, as MSG played Islip to a 2-2 Division III draw at home on Sept. 16. Charlotte Reiniger assisted on both goals against the Buccaneers (3-1-1, 2-1-1). Mackey was superb in the nets, producing 18 saves.

On Sept. 16, Mattituck dropped a 5-0 decision at Babylon (6-1, 5-1). Mackey made 14 saves. Kirsten Burke led the Panthers with a goal and two assists.

FIELD HOCKEY

Sept. 18: Southampton 6, Greenport/Southold/Mattituck 0

Goaltender Alison Erwin made nine saves for the Porters (0-5, 0-5) at Southampton (2-5, 2-5), which scored five first-half goals. Carlie Kreymborg paced the Mariners with three goals and an assist.

HOMECOMING

Sept. 25: Mattituck Homecoming weekend

The Tuckers will hold five events on the weekend of Sept. 25-26. On Friday, three events will begin at the same time on school grounds. At 4:30 p.m., their girls volleyball team will face Port Jefferson, the girls tennis squad will face Shoreham-Wading River, and the boys soccer side will host Greenport. In the second game of a soccer doubleheader, the MSG girls will take on Rocky Point at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday at 9 a.m., Mattituck will hold the first Kelly Pickering Memorial Volleyball tournament. Mattituck will honor the late girls’ volleyball coach, who passed away earlier this year.
