Saugus teacher arraigned on fentanyl possession charge

LYNN — Saugus Middle School Science Teacher Roxanne Plaskon was arraigned on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a Class A drug at Lynn District Court on Friday morning.

The Saugus Police Department responded to a report of a substance found in both the teachers’ bathroom and a classroom on Thursday. The classroom was later identified as Plaskon’s. Thursday’s investigation also yielded video surveillance showing Plaskon leaving the bathroom where the substance was later found.

After speaking with Plaskon, officers recovered a pill bottle containing a powdery substance that was later determined to be approximately 6 grams of fentanyl.

The court entered a plea of not guilty on Plaskon’s behalf. The Commonwealth requested that Plaskon undergo a substance-abuse evaluation and further treatment, but the judge ultimately ruled against the prosecution’s request.

“Where Ms. Plaskon presents with no history, I don’t believe that the Commonwealth has met the burden necessary to impose the substance-abuse evaluation and comply with any follow-up treatment deemed necessary,” the presiding judge said during the arraignment.

Plaskon was released on her own recognizance with a written promise to return to court on March 5.
