SAUGUS — State Rep. Donald Wong maintained a perfect voting record during the 2023-2024 legislative session, having been recorded on all 199 votes.
While compiling his 100-percent attendance record, he cast votes on several major policy initiatives including health care reform, veterans’ benefits, tax relief, data privacy protections, Second Amendment rights, prescription access, anti-stalking protections, and animal welfare.
Additionally, Wong has advocated for reform of the Massachusetts emergency shelter system, asking the state to prioritize Massachusetts residents and veterans. He supported multiple amendments to the system, brought forth by Second Assistant Minority Leader Paul Frost, which included installing a three-month residency requirement for family shelter, as well as prioritizing Massachusetts residents on the waitlist for emergency housing assistance. However, these amendments were ultimately not adopted.
During the legislative session, Wong also opposed a bill on gun reform, noting the robustness of the state’s preexisting gun laws. He voted in support of criminalizing “revenge porn,” raising the income tax credit from 30 percent to 40 percent, reducing tax on short-term capital gains from 12 percent to 8.5 percent, and expanding access to non-hospital childbirth options, in addition to many more bills.
