ROUNDUP: Marblehead golf team keeps Tedesco Cup safe

Thursday at Tedesco Country Club, where both the Marblehead and Swampscott golf programs call home, the Tedesco Cup was retained by the Magicians in a 47.5-24.5 final.

Eight Magicians (Marty Ryan, Tyler Forbes, Jacob Hershfield, James Bickell, Greyson Leventhal, Joy Meshulam, Max King, Will Macrina) won their matches with Hershfield’s 33 earning him medalist.

Tyler Ostroff (37) Mike Collins (38), and Nick Smyth (39) shot well for Swampscott, which finished its season 5-9. Marblehead upped its record to 12-4 (11-2 Northeastern Conference).

The Eagles wrapped up the regular season with a 13-match winning streak after dropping their season-opener. They will compete in the Division 1 North Sectional Tournament at Far Corner Golf Course on Wednesday.

Zach Enners (36), Tripp Hollister (37), and Jack Carew (38) led The Prep on Thursday.

FOOTBALL

Marblehead 40
Beverly 7

Make it three in a row for Marblehead (3-2), which steamrolled Beverly, 40-7, at Piper Field. Brady Selvais got the scoring started and it was all uphill from there for the hosts. Colt Wales (2 TD), Crew Monaco, Finn Gallup, Sam Thompson, Bernardo Bannis, and Breydan Callahan all went home with scores, while Beverly’s only touchdown came from a kickoff return to close the first half.

BOYS SOCCER

KIPP 6
Nashoba 2

KIPP took care of business at Manning Field, sending Nashoba home with a 6-2 loss. Jelder Deleon (2), Josue Deleon (2), Jossue Giron, and Rafael Consoro went home with goals for the Panthers.

BC High 1

The Prep (12-1-0) picked up a home win against its traditional rival, 2-1. Junior Garrison Murphy and senior Jack Neal scored the goals, with assists to junior Joe DeCesare and senior Matt Foley. The Eagles also received strong performances from junior midfielder Finn McCabe, junior defender James Minor, and senior defender Matt Theodore.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lynnfield 5
Essex Tech 1

The Pioneers (9-2-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half and never looked back with a Cape Ann League win at home. Sophomore Ava Damiani led the offense with a goal and two assists, while senior captain Emma Rose scored two goals – the second one off her own corner kick.

Senior captain Clara Caulfield and sophomore Ava Damiani notched two assists each. Senior captain Bella Carroll netted a goal and dished out an assist. Giada Antidormi also slotted one home.

Freshman Sabrina Hayman, filling in for injured goalie Victoria Mino, earned the start and her first varsity victory. Hayman said she was nervous, but you could say she played like a seasoned veteran.

“It was nerve-wracking, but my teammates gave me such great support,” she said.

Swampscott 1
Salem 1

The Big Blue drew even against host Salem on Thursday. Swampscott’s Fiona Keaney found the back of the net off a delivery from Lyla Rogers.
