ROUNDUP: KIPP's boys soccer team reaches the end of the road

[ad_1]

Capping off Tuesday’s boys soccer double-header at Manning Field was KIPP Academy. The No. 14 Panthers played host to No. 19 University Park Campus, falling by a score of 4-2 in Division 5 action.

KIPP finished its season with a record of 9-7-3. University Park Campus lived to see another day. It will visit No. 3 Bromfield School with a day and time to be determined.

As for the Panthers, Anaias Lopez scored a banger from 30 yards out on a free kick. Alexi Sandoval tucked KIPP’s other goal.

“We played our hearts out the whole season,” said KIPP coach Josh Canales. “I’m very proud of every single moment I got to witness and it won’t be the last time you hear from KALC.”

BOYS SOCCER

St. John’s Prep 3
Acton-Boxborough 2

The No. 4 Eagles withstood a scare against No. 29 Acton-Boxborough at Glatz Field in Danvers. The Prep trailed, 2-1, midway through the second half, but came back to win in front of its home faithful. Captain Matt Foley led by example and scored the game’s opening goal, while Garrison Murphy also scored and Ryan King delivered the game-winning strike. Joe DiCesare dished out two assists, while Owen Beeny delivered another.

Pembroke 3
Swampscott 0

A slow first half haunted Swampscott’s boys soccer team, too. The No. 19 Big Blue met their match in No. 14 Pembroke, which hosted the Division 3 matchup. Despite the loss, it was a solid fall for Adam Bailey’s group, which checked out with a record of 9-6-4 and a first-round bye.

FIELD HOCKEY

Watertown 2
St. Mary’s 0

No. 15 St. Mary’s took on a powerhouse in top-ranked Watertown – which was unbeaten in 94 consecutive games – and took the opposition right down to the wire in Division 3 action. The final score favored host Watertown by a pair of goals after a 1-0 halftime score. Despite a loss on the scoreboard, you could say it was a win compared to last season, which saw Watertown top the Spartans by a score of 5-0. St. Mary’s finished the season with a 14-5-1 record behind coach Victoria Sanders, up from the team’s 12-5-2 record a year ago.

Norwell 5
Swampscott 0

A sluggish first half put No. 32 Swampscott in a hole, and the Big Blue couldn’t climb out. Norwell, ranked atop Division 3, worked with a 4-0 halftime cushion and didn’t lose it. The win gave Norwell its 19th of the season to go with no losses and just two draws. Swampscott (7-8-5), helmed by second-year coach Jaymie Caponigro, defeated No. 33 Blackstone Valley RVT, 3-1, at Blocksidge Field this past Sunday.
