Lynn Classical’s volleyball team upped its record to 6-1 with a 3-0 sweep of traditional archrival Lynn English on Wednesday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, and 25-18 in favor of the Lady Rams. Leading the way were Brooke Braswell (5 kills, 6 aces, 6 digs), Amanda Hughes (8 kills, 3 aces, 9 digs), and Jaiyda DeBenedetto (5 kills, 6 aces, 11 digs).

In set scores of 25-12, 25-9, and 25-8, Marblehead (5-2) worked its magic to tame the Panthers. Mari Modryznska (11 kills) and Greta Sachs (10) led Marblehead’s offense, while Eva Burke added 26 assists.

“All evening, Marblehead’s serve receive remained consistent and strong, giving us an opportunity to run a hugely-effective offense,” said coach Killeen Miller.

Megan Parkman also led the winning effort with seven digs.

“Megan’s communication and hustle as libero continues to enable Marblehead’s offense to become more consistent,” Miller said.

Call it another sweep. In scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25- 21, the Big Blue took care of the Witches. Hayden Haskell (10 service points, 8 digs) and Lila Paster (18 service points, 3 aces, 8 kills) led the offensive onslaught.

Osama Mishal netted two goals with Jason Decost finding the game-winner as Peabody (4-2) took down Gloucester, 3-2, on enemy turf. Luke Murray, Kacper Kowalczyk, and Decost picked up assists, while Owen Brennan, Fabio Goulart, and Derek Collins played strong games, according to Peabody coach Stan McKeen.

With clean sheets all over the place, host Beverly and Swampscott settled for a tie on Wednesday. Eve Bryne of the Big Blue was in net for the shutout.

Connie Patturelli (3 goals), Ally Bettencourt (2 goals), and Avery Marcus led a dynamic Peabody offense in its 8-0 thrashing of Gloucester. Alessandra Forgione secured the shutout between the pipes.

Swampscott (3-4) defended Tedesco Country Club against Saugus, with Mike Collins’ 37 leading the charge. Nick Smyth shot a 38, while Tyler Ostroff, Will Brogna, and Luke McGonagle all shot 39s to lead the Big Blue.

The Prep (4-1) took care of business with Seamus O’Holleran’s 34 leading the way. Jack Moriarty was the second-place Eagle with a 35.

“It takes a complete team effort,” said coach Brian Jasiak. “Typically, you have to break 220 with all six scores under 40 to have a chance, and we did just that for the first time this season with three straight road wins in consecutive days. The whole team contributed, led by a 2-under par round from Seamus O’Holleran, two birdies from Jack Moriarty for his 1-under round, along with the lone eagle of the match from AJ Bodnar to secure his even-par round.”

Another match, another win for the Magicians (7-2). Jacob Hershfield, James Bickell, Greyson Leventhal, Max King, and Will Macrina won their matches, while Marty Ryan drew even.

In a “very close match,” according to Peabody coach Peter Cronan, his Tanners fell to Danvers on Wednesday. Tristan Joyce, Nate Palhares, Anthony Modugno, and Noah Crocker all played strong matches for Peabody (1-6).

CROSS COUNTRY

The Lynn Tech-KIPP girls remained perfect (2-0) with a 22-24 win at Minuteman. Wilmarlyn Fernandez led the way in first place, followed by Faith Akinbami (3rd), Gissel Rodriquez (5th), Estrella Ortiz (6th), and Anyelli Vasquez (7th). On the boys’ (1-1) side, in an 18-43 win, Franklyn Maldonado secured first place. Rounding out the team were Liban Abdikardir (2nd), Xavier Ortiz (5th), Christian Nunez (6th), Angel Rivera (7th), Liam Carmody (8th), and Thomas Howard (9th).

Lynn Classical’s boys team (1-2) defeated Revere, 22-38, behind Gianni ElMudesi’s second-place finish – just one second behind the winner. Rocco Disaia and Cole Hannabury finished third and fourth, respectively. The girls (1-2) fell to Revere, 35-20, with Marianna De Leon running to third place.

As for Lynnfield, its girls lost another close meet – this time, to Manchester-Essex at Ravenswood Park, 25-30. Personal records came from Lynnfield’s April Sun (26:21) and Karolena Gomez (29:18). The boys (2-0) won, 28-39. Once again, Shea McCarthy led the way with a 17:05 (1st; one second from course record). He was followed by Dylan Nguyen (17:59, 3rd), Nick DeGennaro (18:58, 7th), Mike Marenghi (19:38, 8th) and Ashkrit Mahajan (19:43, 9th).

Despite a 28-28 tie, the Marblehead girls pulled out a very close win that came down to a sixth-runner tie-breaker. Marri O’Connell, once again, led the way with a first-place finish and a time of 18:56, which smashed the existing course record of 19:20. A breakout freshman star, Annabelle Averett (20:05), led Swampscott.
