ROUNDUP: Classical boys, English girls race to wins

Tuesday saw the Lynn Classical and Lynn English cross country programs square off in Lynn Woods. In the end, the Classical boys and English girls finished victorious against their traditional archrivals.

In the Rams’ 24-33 win, Elijah Morin impressed with a second-place finish, while Logan Sous and Mohamed Sheeita also ran well. The Lady Bulldogs pounced with a narrow 27-28 victory with Maddie McHale racing to first overall. Classical runners finished second, third, and fourth, but to no avail.

CROSS COUNTRY

Both the boys and girls teams of St. Mary’s fell to Archbishop Williams on Tuesday. Kelsey Kwiatek continued her strong season with another first-place finish, with Nina Lopes and Siena-Rose Summa close behind. On the boys’ side, top finishers were Lucian Paula, Cristian Rodriguez, and Savas Trellopoulos.

BOYS SOCCER

Lynnfield 2
Manchester-Essex 1

No home field, no problem for Lynnfield, which doubled up Manchester-Essex in a close one.

“A very good win for us. We were down, 1-0, at the half,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe. “Great games for all the defenders, especially Charlie Morgan.”

Joel Anthony and Matt Reinold tucked second-half goals to win it for the Pioneers.

Medford 2
Lynn Classical 0

With Classical “still missing some key pieces and continuing to battle to get back to full force,” according to coach Eric Moreno, his Rams were blanked by Medford on enemy turf. They return to action Thursday at Somerville (4:15 p.m.).

FIELD HOCKEY

Swampscott 2
Danvers 2

Host Swampscott netted two goals, courtesy of Lila Giard and Maisie Russo, but had to settle for a draw against the Falcons. Assists were dished out by Sofia Robledo Puch and Megan Baran.

Masconomet 5
Saugus 0

The Chieftains remained undefeated in the Northeastern Conference with a shutout win over the Sachems. Masconomet goal-scorers were Ava Gauvain, Mia Marques, Mia Juliano, and Sophia Carson (2).

VOLLEYBALL

Lynn Tech 3
Nashoba Tech 0

In clean set scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-13, Lynn Tech upped its record to 9-5 with a home-court win. Zahara Belizaire led the charge with 17 assists, five digs, three aces, and a pair of kills. She was followed by Lia Morales (11 digs, 5 aces, 2 kills), Kaylee Deschamps (5 kills, 2 aces), Ana Godoy (9 digs, 2 aces), and Azya Castro (6 kills).

Bishop Stang 3
St. Mary’s 1

The Spartans (6-9) couldn’t pick up a road victory against Bishop Stang. Sky Watson (10 kills, 3 aces) and Kyra Lominy (10 service points, 2 aces, 5 kills) played well in defeat.

GOLF

Lynn English 40
Lynn Classical 32

Despite strong performances from match winners Jake Beye, Brayden Curley, Andrew Lang, and Finn Dalferro, Classical (3-8) fell to its familiar foe. English moved to 7-1-2. Winning Bulldogs were Riley Driscoll, AJ Lopez, Kyle Furlong, and Ian Brown.

St. Mary’s 169
Marblehead 159

Senior Day was a success for St. Mary’s, which took down Marblehead at Gannon Municipal Golf Course to finish the regular season with an 11-6 record. Stephen Nason (34 points), Luke DiLisio (26), and Shea Newhall (25) led the winning effort, while Tyler Forbes (36) was Marblehead’s medalist.

Swampscott 53.5
Salem 18.5

Swampscott coach Ron Young called it “a total team effort” against the Witches. Luke McGonagle, Tyler Ostroff, and Mike Collins all shot 38 to lead the Big Blue at Tedesco Country Club.

Masconomet 41
Peabody 31

Despite sporting three winners, the Tanners met their match in the Chieftains. Nate Palhares, Jayden Cunningham, and Jason Houlden were victorious for Peabody, which dropped to 4-9.
