Nahant Library receives tech upgrade

NAHANT — The Nahant Public Library has received brand new technology, all for public use, as part of a grant that was awarded to the Johnson School, Director Nori Morganstein announced Friday in the Board of Trustees meeting. The upgrade includes four desktop computers, a new tablet, and a Chromebook, which will all be available for public use and are currently being set up.

“I did the math and it’s over $17,000 in new technology just for the library, and a lot more than that for the school,” said Morganstein, who this week went to the Johnson School to pick up the computers. “I’ve been working with our tech support to set everything up. Fingers crossed, it seems like everything’s in place and working and printing at the moment.

The Library is currently hosting the Johnson School Art Exhibit this month to celebrate Youth Art Month. The display, which will be there through March 28, includes children’s artwork of landscapes, nature, skiing and snowboarding, and self-portraits to showcase motion and their personalities.

In light of more good tech news for the library, Morganstein also shared in her Director’s report that they are beginning the process of transferring to the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE), which is a consortium of public and academic libraries on the North Shore. Morganstein recently gave members a tour, which she said they enjoyed. “We’re starting to see what we want our page to look like and how people navigate,” she added. “It’s a big process, but we started this week.”
