MARBLEHEAD — Chris Norkun has declined an offer to be the next principal at the Glover School.
The announcement, sent in an email to Glover School families, came Friday evening following a School Committee meeting earlier in the afternoon. The statement said that the position will be reopened.
“Assistant Superintendent Julia Ferreira is continuing to lead the search team and will provide updates when available,” the statement reads.
In January, former Glover Principal Hope Duran resigned after being on medical leave. Village School Principal Matt Fox briefly served in the interim at Glover before Marblehead High School Assistant Principal Dan Richards took over.
The approval of the contract was on the committee’s agenda. However, Committee Chair Sarah Fox said the item was a “placeholder” and that interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness was “working with a candidate.”
During the meeting, the committee also approved contract offers for two assistant superintendent positions to Mike Pfifferling and LisaMarie Ippolito.
Pfifferling will take over as assistant superintendent of finance and operations, a position that opened after Michelle Cresta left the district in March. Ippolito will become the assistant superintendent of student services.
Vice Chair Jenn Schaeffner commended Ferreira for her work in leading the search teams.
“She has really been doing a great job with helping us recruit and manage interviews,” Schaeffner said. “We’ve obviously moving along at a pretty fast clip here and hiring some great folks and she has been instrumental.”
Committee members also selected two finalists for the district’s next interim superintendent: Barbara Cataldo and John Robidoux.
The search for a new Village School principal has also gotten underway. That position opened after Mandy Murphy announced she was leaving for a principal position in Danvers Public Schools.
