Lynn Tech drops one at home to Northeast Metro

LYNN — It was a beautiful day for soccer at Manning Field, but a tough one to swallow for the Lynn Tech boys team, which fell to Northeast Metro, 2-0.

Northeast came out hot with captain George MacKinnon scoring within the first eight minutes. Fast forward to the start of the second half, and it was fellow captain Gustavo Teixera tucking another to put the Tigers on ice.

That said, Northeast coach Mike Shaw remained only somewhat satisfied.

“I thought the boys played soundly, overthought some stuff, and played a little hesitant,” he said. “A 2-0 win here. You’re usually thinking we are good, but we have to look at the bad. They need to possess a little bit longer and they need to talk more, but overall, I think it was a pretty good game.”

Tech’s assistant coach, Brianna Moreno, admitted, “It’s always a tough game against Northeast.”

“Unfortunately, we are just trying to rearrange our team the best that we can. We lost a lot of key players on our team, so we are using JV players to try and fill in those spots,” she said. “We are just trying to figure out what’s best for us. We are really struggling right now.”

Tech looks to avenge itself Saturday against Shawsheen Valley Tech. The home game kicks off at noon.

“Defensively, we are missing our starting keeper and trying to do the best that we can with what we have, so there is going to be a lot of work to do,” Moreno said. “It’s only one game and we just have to keep our heads held high. There’s a long season ahead of us. Our mental capacity just has to be a little bit stronger and [we have to] push to be the best versions of ourselves.”
