LYNN — The Police Department has launched an investigation into an attack by two pit bulls that left a man seriously injured earlier this month.

According to Lt. Rick Connick, at approximately 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, officers responded to a disturbance call on the bike path near 70 Cottage St. Upon arrival, they found a 68-year-old man with “significant facial injuries.” The man reported he had been attacked by two loose pit bulls while walking along the path.

Connick said in a statement that the victim was transported to the hospital to receive treatment. The dogs are now being held by police as the investigation unfolds.

“Officers initiated an investigation and as a result, two dogs suspected in the attack were located and they are being held in quarantine pending further investigation,” Connick said.

According to a report by WBZ, a search warrant stated that the victim’s “left ear had been removed, part of his nose had been torn off, and his face was covered in blood,” as a result of the attack.

WBZ also reported that according to the warrant, both dogs might have lived in a barbershop on the other side of the street where the attack took place.

Connick said that the situation is “still an active and ongoing investigation.”
