LYNN — Authorities have made an arrest in connection with the June 15 shooting that killed Kai Burgos, 17, of Saugus, in the Market Basket parking lot at 40 Federal St.

Adrian Pena, 18, of Lynn, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in the Dominican Republic on a fugitive-from-justice charge last week, according to a statement released by Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker’s Office.

Pena will be arraigned on that charge in Miami on a date that has yet to be determined, according to the statement.

A spokesperson for Tucker’s office said Pena will not be arraigned on any further charges unless he is extradited to Massachusetts, which is also to be determined.

Tucker said his office is looking forward to prosecuting the case “to achieve justice, and hopefully some measure of peace, for Kai Burgos’ family.”

“The perseverance and determination of law enforcement in this case speaks to their dedication in pursuit of a just outcome and to the safety of our community,” Tucker said.

In addition to the U.S. Marshals Service, the Lynn Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police’s Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, the State Police Detective Unit assigned to Tucker’s office, and law-enforcement officials in the Dominican Republic all contributed to the investigation.

“This arrest demonstrates our commitment to hold accountable those who commit acts of violence in our community,” Lynn Police Chief Chris Reddy said.

He added that he is thankful for the work conducted by the agencies involved.

State Police Col. John E. Mawn said the agency remains focused on securing justice for the victims of violent crimes.

“We appreciate the many partners who collaborated to locate this fugitive abroad,” Mawn said. “This successful operation illustrates our unwavering commitment to those we swear to protect.”
