To the editor:
I am writing in response to Rep. Seth Moulton’s recent statement published in The New York Times, where he blames Democrats’ support of trans youth and athletes for Kamala Harris’s loss in the election. As the grandmother of a 15-year-old non-binary child, I am deeply concerned by his comments.
Fortunately, with the love and support of our extended family and an excellent school that understands the challenges these students face, my grandchild is doing well. But my family and I worry about the world they may encounter in the future, especially after the outcome of this election. We are concerned because:
I hope Rep. Moulton reconsiders his stance on this issue. Trans individuals have always been part of our society and will continue to be. My grandchild deserves a happy, successful life, just as his daughters do. He should not deny my grandchild and other trans youth this right.
Sincerely,
Jean Koulack-Young
