LTTE: Seniors deserve to age at home

To the editor:

I am writing in response to a letter written on May 23 by Barbara Cole.

She wrote about the fact that seniors feel overlooked and priced out of our homes by ever-increasing taxes.

A loud Amen!

As a senior (80) living in the same home for 50 years, I worry about the fact that I may not be able to stay in the home where my husband and I raised our family and, as a widow, I raised my grandchildren. I am a former city worker, having retired after 20 years of service.

I would like the opportunity to continue living at my home until the time comes that I leave this earth!

Other states are able to suspend property taxes when their citizens reach an elderly age. Is it really too much to ask after supporting the city for all these years? I feel that I have paid my fair share and only hope to continue living in my own home for the rest of my life.

I love this city and hope that some remedy to this situation can be found that is fair to all.
