To the editor:
I am disgusted by Seth Moulton’s recent statement condemning trans youth in sports. This is scapegoating at its worst, blaming the most vulnerable among us. Concerns about trans athletes are rooted in bigotry, sexism, and transphobia. With suicidality rates among LGBTQ+ youth at an all-time high, this kind of uninformed, fear-mongering rhetoric is literally dangerous. Our children are at risk.
Seth Moulton needs to understand that trans kids didn’t cost Democrats the presidency. No, it’s this type of pandering to the white moderate that has abandoned those of us who want a more liberated world—one that calls for an end to the genocide in Gaza, protections for trans people, and freedom of choice over our bodies.
Transgender youth are a gift to this world, and our communities are stronger when they are loved, nurtured, and allowed to thrive. Moulton must realize that his words and actions have consequences. We demand better from our leaders. Trans youth deserve protection, not political exploitation.
Sincerely,
Joanna Gattuso
