To the editor:

I grew up in Lynn and was a real beach devotee during the late 1940’s and 1950’s. During the summer we were always on our bikes heading for the beaches.

Often Lynn Beach, with it’s refreshment stands and tennis courts, was our destination. (Either that) Or the beach along the Causeway to Nahant, which was very popular on hot nights. It really had a great breeze.

I can remember my parents and I spending a hot night there on our blanket. This was prior to air conditioning of course

But the smartest and the chicest beach of all was Fisherman’s Beach. That’s where the elite young crowd gathered day after day to bake or fry in the blazing sun — to pose for each other on our beach towels and slather up on baby oil with iodine mixture. It was THE place to be.

How surprising  it is to me to see that it is now unswimmable and uninhabited. How times have changed. And not for the better.
