LTTE: Auditing legislature will grant transparency

[ad_1]

To the editor:

I am writing to express support for Ballot Question 1, to give the state auditor the authority to audit the state legislature.

I endorse Democratic State Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s push to bring greater transparency to Beacon Hill. Consolidated power from well-connected politicians and the Beacon Hill establishment has caused Massachusetts to rank among the lowest in the nation for transparency. For example, legislation is crafted and debated behind closed doors in “executive committee,” barring press and public access, and the legislature is exempt from open meeting, open records, and fair procurement laws.

A vote to give DiZoglio the authority to audit the legislature is a vote for greater transparency to the public and for shedding light on the inner workings of the Legislature. Please vote “Yes” on Question 1 on Nov. 5 (or during early voting).
