The best of the best took center stage this past week, as New Balance and Nike Nationals were held in Boston and New York City, respectively.
St. Mary’s Kelsey Kwiatek ran in Friday’s 2-mile race and placed 120th with a time of 11:04.19. She followed with Sunday’s mile race and placed 139th in 5:07.94.
“These are both her second-best times of her career and seconds off her personal bests,” said St. Mary’s coach Tristan Smith. “For her to get this far and experience competing at this level is an unbelievable experience that will prepare her for our upcoming outdoor season, her senior year, and beyond in her career.”
Tyson Stroope put on a pentathlon show for St. John’s Prep. He placed 11th in 60m hurdles (8.53), eighth in the 1,000-meter race (2:59.12), second in high jump (6-05), 13th in long jump (19-10.25), and 12th in shot put (41-11.25).
